Tour Itinerary
Depart Windhoek and travel into the vast Kalahari Desert, the largest continuous stretch of sand in the world. With its deep red dunes, endless grass plains and scattered acacia trees, this remarkable semi-desert is home to specially adapted wildlife and rich cultural history. Enjoy the opportunity to experience the red dunes and desert landscapes, with optional nature drive activities available.
Travel south through arid plains and rocky landscapes towards Fish River Canyon. Visit the unique Garas Quiver Tree Forest and Giant’s Playground, where fascinating rock formations and quiver trees create a surreal setting. Continue to your lodge near Fish River Canyon with time to explore the surrounding area or join an optional guided nature drive.
Begin the day at the spectacular Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon on Earth. Continue via Naute Dam and the Naute Kristall Cellar and Distillery before heading to the coastal town of Lüderitz. Stop at Garub to view the famous wild horses of the Namib Desert before arriving in Lüderitz, where you may enjoy optional fresh seafood at Diaz Café and visit Diaz Point.
Visit the fascinating ghost town of Kolmanskop, once a thriving diamond mining settlement now partially reclaimed by the desert sands. Continue through wide open plains and the Tiras Mountain range towards the Namib Desert. Arrive near Sesriem, gateway to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, where the afternoon is at leisure to relax or enjoy optional lodge activities.
An early morning start takes you into Namib Naukluft National Park at sunrise. Witness the changing colours of the world’s highest sand dunes before exploring the striking landscapes of Deadvlei and Sossusvlei. There is an opportunity to climb one of the dunes for panoramic desert views before visiting the impressive Sesriem Canyon.
Travel via Solitaire and the scenic Kuiseb Valley towards the Atlantic coast. Stop at Walvis Bay Lagoon, one of Africa’s most important wetland areas and home to large groups of flamingos. Continue along the coastal road to Swakopmund, a charming seaside town known for its palm-lined streets, German colonial architecture and relaxed holiday atmosphere.
Enjoy a full day at leisure in Swakopmund, often called the playground of Namibia. Choose from a range of optional activities including scenic flights, quad biking, sandboarding, skydiving or desert tours. Alternatively, explore the town’s cafés, museums, shopping arcades and beaches at your own pace.
Leave the coast behind and travel inland through Uis and past Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain. Continue into the remote and rugged landscapes of Damaraland, one of Africa’s most geologically diverse regions. This harsh environment is home to desert elephants, black rhino and free-roaming antelope. Arrive at your lodge with the afternoon at leisure.
Enjoy an early morning scenic nature drive through the Otjimboyo Concession towards Brandberg. Follow the dry Ugab Riverbed where desert elephants are sometimes seen feeding among the camelthorn trees. Stop for a light picnic lunch in the wilderness before returning to camp with time to relax or explore the walking trails.
Visit Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring ancient Bushman rock engravings over 6,000 years old. Continue to the Living Museum of the Damara and the Petrified Forest, where ancient fossilised trees and the remarkable Welwitschia plant can be seen. Travel onward to Etosha National Park and your lodge on the park’s border.
Spend the day exploring Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s great wildlife destinations. Game viewing centres around the many waterholes where animals gather, offering excellent opportunities to spot lion, elephant, giraffe, zebra, rhino, leopard and many antelope species. The park is also a paradise for birdwatchers.
Enjoy another full day of game viewing in Etosha National Park with your guide. Different areas of the park provide new wildlife encounters and excellent photographic opportunities. During the dry season, animals gather around the waterholes, while the green season brings newborn wildlife and fresh landscapes. Return to your lodge in the afternoon.
After breakfast, travel back through central Namibia towards Windhoek. Time permitting, stop at the famous woodcarvers’ market in Okahandja or browse local craft markets in Windhoek for last-minute souvenirs. You will then be transferred to your accommodation or the airport for your onward journey.
