Matsumoto in Shinshu

Part of the Nagano (also known as Shinshu) province, Matsumoto is high above the city bustle, with clear, fresh air and activities for outdoor lovers. Especially beautiful is its Norikura Kogen highlands, with the misty Norikura mountain range, relaxing hot springs, and premium, fresh food.

Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route

The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route traverses the Northern Alps, connecting Tateyama Station in Toyama Prefecture with Ogizawa Station in Nagano Prefecture. It stretches 37.2 kilometres in total, with a maximum elevation difference of 1,975 metres — a truly spectacular mountain sightseeing route.

Ride the Unazuki Onsen Trolley Train

After arriving at Unazuki Onsen Station via the scenic Toyama Chiho Railway, visitors are welcomed into a charming hot spring town filled with cozy inns, friendly shops, and the gateway to the breathtaking Kurobe Gorge Railway.

Arrive in vibrant Nagoya, where you’ll be greeted by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy free time to relax or start exploring the city at your own pace. Overnight in Nagoya

Depart Nagoya by coach and travel to the Kiso Valley. Walk part of the historic Nakasendo Trail between Magome and Tsumago, two beautifully preserved Edo-period post towns. Later, visit the charming heritage town of Narai-juku, lined with traditional wooden buildings. Continue on to Matsumoto for the evening. Overnight in Matsumoto

Start the day with a visit to the impressive Matsumoto Castle, one of Japan’s oldest surviving castles. Then journey into the heart of the Japanese Alps to reach Kamikochi, a pristine highland valley famous for its scenic hiking trails and stunning natural beauty. Enjoy leisure time to explore the clear rivers, forests, and mountain views. Overnight in Kamikochi

Today you’ll embark on the spectacular Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, a multi-modal adventure combining cable cars, trolley buses, and ropeways. Witness breathtaking alpine landscapes and the famous Snow Walls towering high above the route (seasonal). End the day on the Toyama side of the Alps. Overnight near Tateyama/Kurobe Area

Travel to Unazuki Onsen, the gateway to Kurobe Gorge. Board the Kurobe Gorge Railway (trolley train) and enjoy the ride through dramatic scenery and sheer cliffs alongside the river. Relax and soak in the atmosphere of a traditional hot spring town in the afternoon. Overnight in Unazuki Onsen (Kurobe Gorge area)

After a leisurely morning, journey south to Takayama, a city famous for its beautifully preserved Edo-era streets and merchant houses. Stroll around Takayama’s Old Town, browse local markets, and enjoy the relaxed mountain-town atmosphere. Overnight in Takayama

Spend the day exploring more of Takayama at your own pace. You might visit the Hida Folk Village, wander the morning markets, or discover Takayama’s many museums and temples. Overnight in Takayama

Today, depart Takayama and return to Nagoya by coach. Upon arrival, enjoy free time for last-minute shopping, sightseeing, or relaxing in the city. Overnight in Nagoya

After breakfast, transfer to Nagoya Airport for your flight home. Your unforgettable journey through Japan’s spectacular Alps comes to an end.
