Once travelled by samurai, merchants and feudal lords between Kyoto and Edo (Tokyo), the Nakasendo today offers an unforgettable journey through beautifully preserved post towns, peaceful forest paths, and the timeless landscapes of the Kiso Valley. This self-guided experience is perfect for independent travellers who value flexibility, freedom, and authentic cultural immersion, with everything pre-arranged so you can simply arrive and enjoy the journey. Tour highlights include minshuku accommodation (traditional family-run guesthouses); Cedar and Cypress Forests, where you can immerse yourself in local villages and walk through cedar and cypress forest paths; Narai-juku, where you can known as the “Narai of a thousand houses,” a long, atmospheric post town lined with traditional wooden merchant buildings; enjoy a Ryokan Hot Spring.
