Galle is a great city to walk around. Located on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka and well known for the Galle Fort – a fortified old city founded by Portuguese colonists back in the 16th century. Take a stroll along the stone sea walls and car-free streets as you admire the brilliant architecture reflecting Galle’s Portuguese, Dutch and British heritage. The Galle Lighthouse stands on the fort’s southeast tip and the Colonial, Dutch reformed Church within the fort itself, has beautiful stained glass features worth viewing.
