Kandy

Kandy is much more than just a city. Capital of the Central Province, Kandy is the cultural home of Sri Lanka and is considered amongst the Buddhist community as one of the most sacred places of spiritual significance in the world. Set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, tea plantations and rainforests, Kandy is well known as a pilgrimage destination for the Temple of the Tooth Relic. The Peradeniya Royal Botanic Gardens is also a must see when visiting Kandy. The beautiful variety of trees, plants and fauna are amazing. Follow the path along the river to the suspension bridge at the top and return via the orchid house. A nature lovers dream with a calm, relaxing environment in total contrast to the hustle and bustle of Kandy itself.
