The gorge has been shaped by thousands of years of erosion with the Liwu River flowing straight through it – this stunning scenery is what makes Taroko Gorge such a special experience. An impressive 19 kilometre long canyon situated near Taiwan’s east coast. Hiking trails are popular and whilst the roads in are narrow and winding, what you are met with once in there is truly spectacular. The name itself means “magnificent and splendid” in the language of Truku, the aboriginal tribe that resides in the area.
